Please your pooch this Christmas
December 8, 2007
Share the spirit of the season with a buddy you know. Bake some dog treats and spread some joy!
These cookies are perfect for puppies and older dogs who appreciate soft foods:
Puppy Cookies
Ingredients: 2 jars (3 1/2 oz. ea.) strained beef baby food 1/4 cup dry milk 1/2 cup wheat germ
Mix ingredients. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Flatten with a fork. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes until brown.
This traditional dog biscuit recipe turns festive when cut into holiday shapes:
Dog Biscuits
Ingredients: 3/4 cup hot water 1/3 cup margarine 1/2 cup powdered milk 1 egg, beaten 3 cups whole wheat flour
In a large bowl, pour hot water over the margarine. Stir in powdered milk and egg. Add flour 1/2 cup at a time. Knead for a few minutes to form stiff dough. Pat and roll into 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes (to get hard and dry). Cool.
Be aware of any allergies your dog may have. As with all treats, these should be consumed in moderation.
